Zipper Workshop (Beginners III) - September 27th, 2026
Zippers don’t have to be intimidating! In this hands-on workshop, we’ll take the mystery out of three common zipper applications: regular, invisible, and exposed zippers.
You’ll learn how to choose the right zipper for your project, prepare your fabric, and use the correct presser foot.
We’ll practice each technique step-by-step on prepared fabric samples, then put your new skills to work by creating a simple zippered pouch that you can take home.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have three zipper samples to keep as a reference plus a finished project and, most importantly, the confidence to tackle zippers in future sewing projects.
Sunday, September 27th, 2026 - 3pm - 5pm
Sewing skills are required for this workshop. Students need to have an understanding of their machine and its settings and clothing construction. If you have never used a sewing machine or made a garment before, please take our beginners courses before signing up for this class.
Supplies other than the sewing pattern are not included. **You are responsible for bringing your own sewing machine and supplies.** You will receive a supply list from the instructor at least five days before the course begins.
Meet the instructor: Rachel Putman
Inspired by Betty and Veronica and fueled by a lifelong love of making, Rachel has been an advocate for slow fashion since she was a teen. Her passion grew into teaching—sharing her skills with friends and family, fellow sewists online, and now the local community. Rachel has been a pattern tester, fit model, and content creator for many independent designers. She’s excited to spark creativity and confidence in new and experienced sewists while building connections with Athens’ creative community.

For cancellations, you will receive a 75% refund until seven days before the beginning of the course. Cancellation seven days or less before the course results in a refund of 25% of the workshop cost. No refunds will be issued on the day the course begins or after the course has begun.
