Free Motion Embroidery Workshop (Beginners II): March 21, 2026
-
This three hour in-person workshop will be held on Saturday, March 21st from 1-4pm in our sewing studio at Community. It is available to ages 18+ with a maximum class size of 6 students.
Learn how to draw with your sewing machine!Free motion embroidery unlocks speed and detail in your design process and enables you to bring your drawings to life on fabric. This technique allows you to use a home sewing machine as a decorative embroidery machine. This class will walk you through the set-up required to get started and address troubleshooting and problem solving, so you can enjoy experimenting with this fun and creative technique.
Please bring your own sewing machine, free motion embroidery foot (unique to machine manufacturer, ensure fit before class), and the instruction manual if possible, a selection of colorful threads, and woven fabrics to experiment with. If your sewing machine does not have the capability of lowering the feed dogs, you will also need a feed dog cover (make sure it fits your machine!).The instructor, Evelyn Russell, works at Community as a redesigner and seamstress. She is studying Fashion Merchandising and Fabric Design at the University of Georgia and is pursuing a career in sustainable textiles and fashion.
While this is a beginners level class, students are required to have a basic understanding of how to use their sewing machine. If you don't yet know how to use your machine, please sign up for our Beginners Sewing Course.
Supplies are not included in the price of the course. **You are responsible for bringing your own sewing machine and supplies.** You will receive a supply list at least from the instructor at least five days before the course begins.
Cancellations may be made up to 3 days before the class for a 50% refund. Cancellations made within 2 days of the class are non-refundable.
