This is a 3-week machine sewing course that meets twice a week. It introduces the students to making a skirt with asymmetrical pleats, a front slit, and pockets, from a commercial sewing pattern. The skirt can be made in a mini (no slit) or midi length.

The class meets on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings and will be held in our sewing area at Community with a maximum class size of 6 students.

Basic sewing skills are required for this course. Students need to have an understanding of their machine and its settings, and basic clothing construction and finishing techniques. If you have never used a sewing machine or made a garment before, please take our Beginners Sewing and/or Beginners II courses before signing up for this class.

The objective of this course is to teach how to read a commercial sewing pattern. The students will follow a pattern that has been pre-chosen by the instructor and will complete a skirt by the end of this course. This will include learning new techniques like adding a lining, sewing in a zipper, and working with interfacing.

The cost of the sewing pattern is included in the price of this course. Other supplies are not included. **You are responsible for bringing your own sewing machine and supplies.** You will receive a supply list at least from the instructor at least five days before the course begins.

The instructor, Lauren DeBeers, works at Community as a redesigner and alterations seamstress. She is the president of Delta Phi Epsilon at the University of Georgia, where she studies public relations and public health. Lauren has enjoyed sewing and teaching sewing classes since she was in high school.
