Introduction to Pattern Drafting - Pants (Intermediate I) - Oct. 8th - 29th, 2026
- This is a 4-week designed for 18+ that will be held in our sewing area at Community on Thursday Evenings with a maximum class size of 4 students.
- In this 4-week class, you will learn how to create a pant sloper, which serves as the foundational basis for any pant pattern—whether you want to design flared, wide, or straight-leg styles. We will draft a 2D pattern based on your custom measurements, test the fit using muslin, and make all the necessary pattern corrections. If time permits, I will also share tips on how to alter your sloper to create different pant styles.
This class requires previous machine sewing knowledge, but no previous pattern drafting experience is needed. Students should have a basic understanding of commercial patterns and experience sewing from them. If you have never used a sewing machine before, please sign up for our Beginners Sewing Course. If you have never used a commercial pattern before, please sign up for our Basics of Garment Construction course.
Please note: Day 1 will focus entirely on pattern creation, so no sewing machine is required for the first class. If you do not have curved rulers or a T-square, we can share tools during class.
Supplies are not included in the price of the course. **You are responsible for bringing your own sewing machine and supplies.** You will receive a supply list at least from the instructor at least five days before the course begins.
Your sewing machine needs to have the following functions: Straight stitch and zig zag stitch, ability to adjust stitch length and width, and thread tension.
