With the help and support of the Athens community, we have been sewing reusable fabric masks for a local hospital for the last weeks. Due to the new guidelines of the CDC that recommended for everyone to now wear face masks in public, we are making a limited number of masks available for sale in our online store.
Since the numbers we are able to make are limited and because we still want to keep supplying the hospital with the masks they need, we are limiting the number of masks per customer to 10 for now, until we are able to produce them in larger numbers.
These masks are not as protective against the virus as the current standard medical masks that are being used by frontline healthcare providers, but are better than nothing and help prevent spread of the virus. Filters and/or protective material can be inserted between the two layers to provide additional protection.
About the masks:
-especially comfortable for long term wear
-fits a variety of sizes
-made from two layers of 100% cotton material and elastic jersey ties
-measures 8" wide by 6.5" long (when stretched)
-has pipe cleaner sewn into top for shaping around the nose
-has a pocket where filters or other protective material can be inserted
-machine washable and can be tumble dried
Please be assured that all of the masks we are selling are made by the Community seamstresses, and they will be compensated for their work by Community. All masks that are funded through our fundraiser will be delivered to the hospital.
Our seamstresses are out of work since we can’t do alterations right now due to the close contact it requires when doing a fitting. We are ready to put our machines and skills to use to help out with what is really needed at this time. Buying a face masks from us will help support Community during the time when we need to keep the store closed to the public to protect our customers and our staff.
