Mending Workshop (Beginners I) - October 6th, 2026

Mending Basics is your 101 clothing care and maintenance class. The workshop will be held at Community on Tuesday Evening, October 6th from 6:15pm-8:15pm with a class size of maximum 10 students.

In Mending Basics you will learn various hand-sewn mending techniques, such as how to sew a button, blind hemming, and darning to repair and maintain your clothing for extending its lifespan. These techniques are utilized to mend common damages to fabric like fraying, holes, fallen hems, and split seams. The instructor will be available to offer individualized advice as you begin the process. Mending takes time, so students will continue their mending projects at home. 

Students are asked to bring two or three clothing items that are damaged in the ways mentioned above. Community will provide supplies for use during the workshop. We will have scrap patch fabric and thread, but we cannot ensure a perfect color match. If possible, bring thread that matches your garment. Students will need to purchase materials for continuing their work at home. 

The instructor, Emily Greene, is a life long sewist with an MFA in set and costume design for theatre. She has worked on Broadway productions, and was a freelance set and costume designer in the Bay Area before spending five years at Laika Studios in Portland, Oregon. She is passionate about garment, and costume construction, thrifted re design, and natural dyeing, especially working with indigo.

We require a minimum of four students to sign up in order for the class to begin. If we do not reach this capacity, then you will be notified. 

Cancellations may be made up to 3 days before the class for a 50% refund. Cancellations made within 2 days of the class are non-refundable.
